The pathetic rampage of this distorted soul serves to wring the emotions of the audience, appealing blatantly to a sense of higher justice and the right of every individual to economic self-determination. The only wonder is that such an explicitly subversive film, with its confronting closeups of the main character, made it past the censors of the McCarthy era. It should be noted that the later Chuck Norris film 'Silent Rage', despite being a transparent copy of 'Indestructible Man', failed completely to maintain any of the subtleties of the original's subtext, trading serious social comment for cheap thrills and fight scenes.
